 Advanced Placement and Company Classes

Company classes are designed for the intermediate and advanced dancer. Directors and staff will determine the proper class placement, and company students will receive an invitation to join the company with the 2015-2016 brochure.
All dancers will be evaluated in their classes in the fall to ensure the proper company placement.

The WCDA welcomes transfer students and encourages dancers with extensive experience
to contact the studio for a proper class placement. The directors and staff will help make this
transition a smooth experience for the dancer and parent.

Class Placement

This course is a fun and positive introduction to Ballet and the world of dance. Preschoolers are taught with patience and understanding. WCDA aims to develop your child's self-confidence and independence with care and enjoyment. This is not a strictly structured Ballet Class. Basic steps, motor skills, and improvisation are set at a pre-school level combined with enchanting music to excite and inspire. Once a youngster steps into the world of dance, a new dimension is explored.
A one-hour class, composed of half Ballet and half Tap, is designed to ensure the child's understanding of the fundamentals in dance. The Ballet portion includes instruction of proper Ballet positions, encourages basic motor skills (including jumping and skipping) and further coordination practiced in dance. The Tap portion builds awareness of rhythm and sounds. The combo class helps stimulate a child's development and confidence through fun and creativity. The combination of styles maintains the students' attention and allows for enjoyment throughout the hour class.
After much success and rave reviews from parents and students, the WCDA is excited to offer the Tri-Combo program to our young students. During this hour and fifteen minute course, children will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of dance in three subjects! Beginner Ballet steps and fundamentals are taught in an age-appropriate fashion while students learn balance and coordination. Through Tap, students are exposed to rhythm and musicality. Finally, students will gain an introduction to Jazz, where they can be creative and explore their personality through dance while learning basic positions and steps. (Only Ballet and Tap shoes are required.)
This class is designed specifically with young men in mind. It will provide them with a customized course to explore and strengthen their desire to dance. The imagination in creativity from students will be the inspiration to explore styles of Jazz, have fun with Hip Hop, and incorporate the rhythms of Tap in order to create a complete, positive dance experience.
Ballet is one of the oldest and most respected of art forms. Ballet is the most fundamental and disciplined of the dance principles and the foundation to a dancer's curriculum. Poise, technique, style, control, and grace beautifully blend to form the magical presence of Ballet. After sufficient study of Ballet, a student is advanced to Pointe work.
Tap is the oldest and most rhythmic of all dance forms. Tap builds awareness of rhythm and sounds. Basic steps and rhythms, combined with choreography provide the essentials necessary for the total Tap experience.
Jazz is America's gift to the world of dance. It is a stylized form of dance that has produced other types of dancing techniques, as well as its own style and excitement. Lyric, musical comedy, Hip Hop, and Theatrical Jazz are varieties of Jazz dancing. Students learn exercises, isolations, leaps, turns, and dance routines set to popular music. Jazz students are encouraged to study Ballet to develop dance fundamentals.
Hip Hop is a high energy dance form with street movements, step by step instructions, and up-beat warm-ups, and stretches. Hip Hop dances to the hottest R&B, Pop, and appropriate Hip Hop music. Hip Hop is the current rage in dance, music, videos, movies, and fashion. Funky, fun, and cool!
Growing more and more in popularity, lyrical/contemporary dance is a fusion of jazz, ballet and modern. This style is expressive, and can be both subtle and dynamic. Lyrical/contemporary dance draws upon ballet and jazz techniques accompanied by music and emotion to tell a story through dance.

Designed to support the disciplines of Ballet and Jazz by building and strengthening the fundamentals of dance, specifically technique. This class is an extension of the essentials learned in company classes and is catered to the individual dancers; they may work in depth on essentials of balance, turnout, stretch, strength and conditioning, turns and leaps. Finally, the dancers will work as a team in performing a "production" during this year's show!
